Next, immerse yourself in Bhutanese spirituality at the National Memorial Chorten, dedicated to the Third King and world peace. We’ll then visit the charming 12th-century Changangkha Temple, followed by the Folk Heritage Museum, showcasing the rich tapestry of Bhutanese rural life. If you happen to be in Thimphu on a weekend, don’t miss the lively weekend vegetable market, where local vendors offer fresh produce and traditional crafts. After a fulfilling day, you’ll return to your hotel for another cozy overnight stay.

Today, we’ll journey to Punakha, the ancient capital of Bhutan. Our drive takes us over the scenic Dochu-La pass, where you can stroll among the 108 stupas and, if the skies are clear, take in magnificent views of the Himalayan peaks. Before arriving in Punakha, we’ll pause at the Royal Botanical Garden, a stunning natural paradise filled with diverse flora and fauna. Upon reaching Punakha, visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, known as the “Palace of Great Happiness,” which stands proudly at the confluence of the Mo Chu and Pho Chu rivers. This architectural marvel holds historical significance, having hosted Bhutan’s first king’s coronation in 1907. Enjoy a restful night at your hotel in Punakha.

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Yabesa village, where you’ll hike through lush rice fields to reach the picturesque Khamsum Yueley Namgyal Chorten. This chorten, built by Her Majesty the Queen, offers mesmerizing views and insight into Buddhist art. Next, we’ll visit Chimi Lhakhang, the temple of the Divine Madman, known for its fertility blessings. Explore the charming villages in Lobesa valley, where you’ll have the chance to engage with locals and learn about their way of life. After a day filled with discovery, return to your hotel in Punakha for a peaceful overnight stay.

Retrace your journey over the Dochu-La pass, taking in the breathtaking Himalayan views one last time. In Thimphu, we’ll visit the National Library, home to ancient Bhutanese scriptures, and the Institute of Traditional Art & Crafts, where you can witness the craftsmanship of local artisans. We’ll also stop by a small handmade paper factory that produces beautiful paper from the Daphne plant, traditionally used for Buddhist manuscripts. Later, we’ll drive back to Paro, stopping at Semtokha Dzong, Bhutan’s oldest dzong, en route. Once in Paro, enjoy a leisurely stroll through downtown before settling into your hotel for the night.

Get ready for an exciting day as we hike from Sang Choekor Buddhist College to the yak pastures below Bumdra Monastery. This early morning adventure includes a scenic drive to Sang Choekor, where you’ll meet our ponies. The trek offers stunning mountain views as we make our way to our campsite beneath Bumdra Monastery, known as the “cave of a thousand prayers.” After lunch, explore the monastery and, if you’re feeling adventurous, hike to the nearby peak for even more breathtaking vistas. Settle in for the night at our cozy wilderness camp, surrounded by the serenity of the Himalayas.

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll begin our descent from Bumdra Monastery, taking a scenic route that includes a visit to Zangtopelri Monastery. The trail leads us through ancient pine and rhododendron forests until we reach the iconic Taktsang Monastery, perched high on a cliff. Known as the “Tiger’s Nest,” this sacred site holds deep significance in Bhutanese Buddhism, believed to be where Guru Rimpoche meditated. After exploring the monastery and soaking in the spiritual atmosphere, we’ll descend to our vehicle and head to the reconstruction site of Drukgyel Dzong, with stunning views of Mt. Jhomolhari. After a fulfilling day, you’ll return to your hotel in Paro for a restful night.
